Terms of Service — Last updated June 6, 2026

Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using the StakeHabit iOS app ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

The Service

StakeHabit is a habit-tracking app that lets you set financial penalties for missed habits. When you create a habit, you choose a stake amount (the penalty per miss) and a charity to receive the funds. If you log a missed check-in, your saved payment method is charged that amount.

StakeHabit is intended for personal accountability. You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into binding agreements to use the Service.

Payments and Charges

When you set up a habit with a financial stake, you authorize StakeHabit to charge your saved payment method each time you log a missed check-in for that habit.

By saving a payment method and creating a habit, you acknowledge that real money will be charged upon confirmed misses and that these charges are subject to the no-refund policy below.

No Refunds

All charges are final and non-refundable. Once a charge is processed, it cannot be reversed.

If you believe you were charged in error — for example, you completed your habit but it was logged as a miss — contact us at willbraycotton@gmail.com within 7 days of the charge. We will investigate and, if the charge was our error, issue a correction at our discretion.

Charges resulting from your own confirmed missed check-ins are not eligible for refund under any circumstances.

Fees

StakeHabit deducts processing fees from the amount donated to charity. You are always charged exactly your stake amount — fees do not increase what you pay.

The remainder after fees is donated to your selected charity. A receipt showing the charge amount and donation amount will be sent to your receipt email address.

Donations

StakeHabit donates the net proceeds from penalty charges to the charity you selected. Donations are batched and sent within 72 hours of each charge. StakeHabit is not itself a charitable organization — donations are made on your behalf to registered third-party charities.

You will not receive a tax deduction receipt for these donations, as they are made on your behalf rather than directly by you.

Account and Data

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. StakeHabit uses Sign in with Apple for authentication — we do not store your Apple ID password.

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. Deleting your account permanently removes your habit data and check-in history from our servers. Payment records may be retained by Stripe in accordance with their legal obligations.

Our full data practices are described in our Privacy Policy.

Prohibited Use

Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, or that the app will meet your specific requirements.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, StakeHabit's total liability to you for any claim arising from use of the Service is limited to the total amount you paid to StakeHabit (i.e., our processing fees) in the 30 days prior to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
